Full description: LECTURES: 1. Objectives of the European Union competition policy. 2. Scope of competition protection - relevant market. 3. Types of anti-competitive practices. 4. The competition protection system in the European Union. 5. Competition-restricting practices. 6. Prohibition of agreements between enterprises. 7. Permissible restrictions of competition. 8. Abuse of a dominant position in the market. 9. Control of concentration of enterprises. 10. State aid in competition policy. 11. Services of general economic interest. 12. Sectoral rules of competition policy. 13. The financial crisis and the competition policy towards banks in the European Union countries. 14. Competition protection policy and the issue of granting state aid in Poland. 15. Colloquium. TUTORIALS: 1. Unfair competition as the basic concept of the law on combating unfair economic competition. 2. Practices violating collective consumer interests. 3. UOKiK's activities in the field of general product safety and product compliance with EU requirements. 4. Out-of-court settlement of consumer disputes. 5. Control of concentration of enterprises. 6. The cooperation of UOKiK with consumer ombudsmen and consumer organizations. 7. Legislative activities of UOKiK protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the development of competition. 8. Company name. 9. The use of market achievements of an entrepreneur as a form of an act of unfair competition. 10. Advertising and dissemination of other information (prohibited or unfair advertising, misleading advertising, disguised advertising - product placement, comparative advertising). 11. Regulation of sales according to the Act on combating unfair competition. 12. Civil liability for acts of unfair competition. 13. Administrative proceedings before the President of UOKiK and competition and consumer protection authorities. 14. Court proceedings in matters related to competition protection. 15. Sanctions for violations of the Act on competition and consumer protection. 16. Cooperation of UOKiK with institutions from other countries and international organizations dealing with competition and consumer protection.

Learning outcomes: KNOWLEDGE: Student: -defines the basic concepts of the theory and practice of competition policy of the European Union; -Know the economic principles and legal regulations for the functioning of enterprises related to the competition policy of the European Union conducted in the Member States. SKILLS: -explain which behaviors of enterprises violate the rules of the EU competition policy, are punishable and allowed; - discusses the roles and competences of public administration bodies established to control enterprises in the field of compliance with EU competition policy rules at European and national level; -makes a critical judgment of European phenomena and processes integration activities related to the current competition policy of the European Union in the Member States. SOCIAL COMPETENCES: -student is prepared to work in institutions and public administration bodies responsible for competition law; -can cooperate with national and EU institutions in the field of research on competition law and policy.
